Hooray for Guitar Hero! For the last few weeks Mia has been cranky during her 'bewitching hours' from suppertime until bedtime (like most babies). Tonight our friends Heidi & Peter discovered that Mia loves to watch the TV screen while we played Guitar Hero! So the video game really does have a redeeming quality! So Mom Mom and Grandpa, when you're babysitting tomorrow night and Mia gets fussy... just start jamming!
Mia helped to bake her first apple pie today! She took a little catnap right when the apple pie was going in the oven.
We were up bright and early and had the apples peeled and sliced by 7:00. We baked a caramel praline apple pie, a 3-layer pumpkin cheesecake pie, and a regular pumpkin pie. The last pumpkin pie probably wouldn't have gotten completed if Mom Mom and Grandpa hadn't popped by to see us. Mia was getting a bit bored with the baking business. She finally fell asleep while Grandpa was holding her. Note her sleep position... it's our favorite for afternoon naps!
So now I can say I've baked an apple pie for the first time. I'm not a pie eater, but I found these new recipes in Dierberg's November cooking magazine and thought I'd give them a try. It was fun with Mia there with me! I plan to spend lots of time with her in the kitchen, just like I used to do when I was little. And I used my Grandma C.'s old apple pie dish... so of course I had to tell Mia about how her great grandma used to cook and bake everyday. Wow, I don't think I could do all that my grandma used to do everyday. Teaching 3rd graders all day is tiring, but I can't imagine having a house full of kids while helping my husband run a business downstairs and cooking a full dinner with dessert every night for my family and employees. I'm sure this old pie dish could really tell some stories!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Mia met her new BFF last night! Mia's cousin, Millie, was born exactly a month after Mia. We had been wanting to go over for a visit and to get pictures of the girls. Millie doesn't live very close, but we're hoping the girls will grow up to be good friends.
Mia also had her 2-month checkup yesterday and all is well. She weighs 14.5 lbs and is over23 inches. I knew babies grew quickly, but I wasn't expecting this! Mia inherited some super-cute clothes from her older cousins Allison and Olivia, but most of the 6-month clothes that she can wear are summer dresses! Such a bummer!
Yesterday Keith headed out to Warrenton to go deer hunting and we had to have a photo op before he left. When else could Mia wear her camo dress that Keith bought for her when she was only a week old? (And who would have known that she'd just about outgrow it before deer season started? Mia turns 2 months old tomorrow and she has outgrown most of her 3-6 month clothes!)
We are happy to report that Keith got his first-ever deer today! He is incredibly excited and had quite the tales to tell about doing all he had to do for the first time by himself out in the woods. I'm excited for him, especially because he took the entire week off of work and now we can have 'family time' since he'll be home!
Today Mia was baptized at St. Cletus! Deacon Mark made the sacrament really special for our family. After Mass everyone came back to our house for Keith's special lasagna and we had a great salad from Russo's, too. We couldn't have asked for a better day... it was almost 80 degrees!
