Rollin' & Eatin' 01/26/2009

Last Friday Mia rolled over twice!  Of course, we didn't get the real thing on camera just yet.  And she hasn't done it again, either.  The following morning we tried to give Mia cereal for the first time.  I assumed she'd gobble it right up, but not quite.   Since Saturday I've mixed the cereal thicker and she's taking most of it.  Her Bumbo seat is the perfect place to feed her, but she doesn't seem to think so.  It won't be much longer, though, and she won't be able to fit in her Bumbo seat anymore!  Did you see those thighs in the pictures below??  So the videos here don't really show great rollin' and eatin', but they're cute anyhow.  You'll be able to hear her newest talent:  raspberries!  She spits all day long as she talks and talks.  She's been working her tongue into making some talking sounds, too... it's been fun to listen to her talking change.  Last week she talked to herself from our house all the way to Chesterfield!  I've learned to let her go, because sometimes if I join in her conversation she stops.  I'll be sure to update her milestones as we get them on video!

Yesterday Mia had her 4 month checkup and received more of her vaccines.  The 0.6 mL of Tylenol she got before the shots didn't nearly take 'the edge' off like it's supposed to... considering her new dose is 1.4 mL!  Our little girl is 26 inches and 18 pounds now!  Only 2 pounds to go and she'll graduate from her infant seat into her 'big girl' carseat!  I'll miss having the infant seat wherever we go because it's nice for her to sit and sleep in.  However, it's getting very heavy lifting her into the van!  I also asked our pediatrician about Mia rolling over... she isn't quite able to make it over yet.  The doctor just laughed and said that bigger babies have trouble getting over as early as smaller babies do.  I wasn't worried about it, but the topic came up while I was filling out the developmental paperwork.  Thankfully, Mia is in perfect health!

Anyone else going stircrazy?  My grandparents are in Arizona visiting family and friends and I'm stuck here, playing with the same old toys all day everyday.  My grandpa just called and said that he's sitting by the pool and getting ready to get in, and I just finished sitting by the kitchen sink while Mom washed bottles... doesn't quite compare.  I'm ready for some warmer weather so Mom and I can go outside for a walk (Mom says she's ready, too!).  I knew I should have snuck into my Mom Mom's suitcase!

What's with Rio? 01/11/2009

Recently Rio has begun 'crying' when he hears Mia crying.  One day it was really funny because while I was holding Mia when she was crying, Rio was 'crying' pretty loudly and Mia kept stopping and staring at him.  Then Rio would stop, so Mia would start back up again... over and over.  It was hilarious because Mia had a look on her face like, "What's with him?"  Rio's probably thinking the same thing about her!

Survey says... 01/08/2009

We need help figuring out where Mia's curly hair comes from!  Keith and I both have straight hair and are wondering where in the family the curly hair comes from.  Any ideas?

One of Mia's nicknames is 'Octopus'.  When we first brought her home from the hospital and I tried to nurse her, her arms were always flailing around.  I had the hardest time getting her to keep her arms where they were supposed to be and it seemed like she had more than two.  Hence, the nickname... and the bath toy!

What a blessed holiday season we had! Uncle Dan and Aunt Stephanie were in town for almost two weeks so we enjoyed spending as much time with them as we could.  We found out we will have a 'West Coast Cousin' coming in July!  Yea!  We started off our Christmas week with a special family night out to dinner at Maggiano's.  We had our Christmas Eve celebration at Keith's Mom's house.  Then Christmas morning we woke up, went to 8:30 Mass and headed over to my parents' house for the day.  On Sunday us 'girls' went to see the Rockettes and had a great time!  Then we celebrated New Year's Eve at Dawn and John's.  New Year's Day we had brunch with Keith's family.  So much fun, and so many people we are thankful to have in our lives.  It is sad to take down all of the decorations because it reminds us of Christmases past and makes us excited to think of Christmases to come.  Keith and I didn't realize how special it would be to combine our own families' holiday traditions into what now will be OUR own special Christmas traditions for our family.   It truly was a very special 1st Christmas with our little Mia!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and wish a healthy and happy New Year to you!  Sorry our Christmas cards were so late... lesson learned for next year.
